The Field Environmental Chambers consist of Air-Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) system, which is capable of controlling the air temperature and airflow rates by adjusting the off-coil temperature and fan speed (using the computer controller) to achieve the required room conditions.
Field Environmental Chamber 1 is used for ventilation and flow field measurements. It is equipped with a breathing thermal mannequin (as a substitution of human), aerosol diffuser, cough machine and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Laser System. The laser system uses an optical imaging technique and can measure fluid or particulate velocity vectors at many (e.g. thousands) points in a flow field simultaneously.
Field Environmental Chamber 2 is specifically used for the simulation of the office work environment. Experiments can involve exposing human subjects to certain conditions, and evaluating the indoor air quality performance and also the subjects’ perception and productivity, using various work performance indices.
